The Mobile Hotspot Feature gives Windows 10 users the ability to use their computer as a router. While this is a pretty nifty feature, it comes with its problems. Sometimes Mobile Hotspot won’t work. And the times it does, it is automatically turned off at intervals. If your Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot continues to crash during use, see the solutions in this guide.
When your PC’s mobile access zone is still out, it’s rarely because something is wrong with your computer. Although the issue could be due to some system crashes with Windows Mobile Hotspot Service, the function is set to turn off at automatically set intervals. However, the good thing is that you can adjust the Mobile Hotspot settings to your preferences to keep it during use. See 3 ways to do this below.
1. Disable Mobile Hotspot Energy Saving
The Windows Mobile hotspot feature is very power intensive, particularly for laptop users. If your laptop is not plugged in / charging, leaving the mobile hotspot turned on can quickly drain your laptop battery. To help users maintain battery power on their PC, Windows automatically turns off the Mobile hotspot when no device is connected. You’ll find the feature quite useful if you tend to leave the Mobile hotpot on after each use.
That being said, if you want the Mobile hotspot to be turned on at all times and want to manually turn it off when not needed, follow the steps below to disable the power saving feature of Windows 10.
Go to Settings > Network and Internet > Mobile Access Zone and make sure the Mobile hotspot is enabled. At the bottom of the mobile hotspot menu, turn off the power saving option.
This will prevent your PC’s mobile access zone from automatically ending when no device is connected.
2. Restart Windows Mobile Hotspot Service
As mentioned above, Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot could still shut down if there is a failure with Windows Mobile Hotspot Service. You can fix it by restarting the service. Here’s how.
Step 1: Open the Windows run box using the keyboard shortcut ‘Windows key + R’.
Step 2: Type services.msc in the Open dialog and click OK.
You will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
Step 3: Find ‘Windows Mobile Hotspot Service’ in the list of services. Right-click and select Restart.
Alternatively, you can restart Windows Mobile Hotspot Service using the command prompt.
Step 1: Open the Windows Quick Access menu using the shortcut ‘Windows key + X’ and select ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’.
Step 2: Then type the following code into the command prompt console and press Enter on your keyboard.
powershell -windowstyle oculto-comando ” Início-Processo cmd -ArgumentList’ /s, /c, net stop “icssvc” & REG ADD “HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesicssvcConfigurações” /V PeerlessTimeoutEnabled /T REG_DWORD /D 0 /F & net start “icssvc” ‘ -Verbo runas ‘
That will close and reopen the command console from the command. Upon reopening, you should see a message that notifies you that ‘Windows Mobile Hotspot Service service is restarting.’
The command prompt console will close after successful execution of the command. Now activate your PC’s mobile hotspot and see if it stays ahead. If the service continues to exit while in use, continue with the troubleshooting method below.
3. Increase Mobile Hotspot timeout limits
By default, the Windows 10 Mobile hotspot service will automatically terminate when you meet two conditions:
For Seamless Timeout, Mobile hotspot will be turned off in 5 minutes if there are no devices connected to the hotspot. Interestingly, this can be increased to a maximum of 120 minutes. For Connection Timeout, the default timeout period is 20 minutes, ie Mobile hotspot will be disabled if the source network has no Internet connection after 20 minutes. You can hit this limit for up to 60 minutes. As mentioned above, these limitations are in effect to help users maintain battery power on their PC.
Quick Tip: To save battery, you should always remember to turn off Mobile hotspot as long as it is not being used.
Follow the steps below to increase the time limits for the mobile access zone on your Windows 10 system.
Note: Before proceeding with the following steps, we strongly recommend that you backup your Windows 10 PC log files. This allows easy recovery of files in case everything goes wrong, broken or accidentally deleted during processing.
Step 1: Open the Windows run box using the keyboard shortcut ‘Windows key + R’. Step 2: Type regedit in the Open dialog box and click OK.
3: To modify the non-peer timeout, paste the following directory into the Registry Editor Address bar and press Enter on your keyboard.
HKLMSystemControlSet001ServicesICSSVCSettings
Step 4: To change Peerless Timeout, double-click PeerlessTimeoutEnabled.
Step 5: Set the value data to 120 and click OK.
This will change the serverless connection timeout to 120 minutes. Then create a new registry key that changes the default connection timeout for your PC’s mobile hotspot.
Step 6: Right-click any space in the HKLMSystemControlSet001ServicesICSSVCSettings directory and select New.
Step 7: Select ‘DWORD (32 bit)’ from the context menu.
Step 8: Name the registry key PublicConnectionTimeout and press Enter on your keyboard.
Step 9: Now double click on the newly created PublicConnectionTimeout registry key, change its value data to 60 and click OK.
Step 10: Reboot the system to make changes.
Enjoy the task without interruption
When Windows 10 mobile point of contact continues to shut down automatically while you are working it seems very frustrating. I’ve been there so I can tell. At this point, we hope you now understand why Mobile Hotspot closes and what you can do to extend its duration of use. Follow the methods listed above-carefully (so you don’t break anything on your computer)-and you shouldn’t have to deal with it anymore.
